What is WIN 2-1-1?

|
|
- WIN 2-1-1 is a national initiative of United
Way and the Alliance of Information and Referral
Systems (AIRS).

Communications Commission for the purpose of providing quick and easy
access to information about local health and human services.

- The goal of WIN 2-1-1 is to
ensure that every Washington citizen has immediate access to health,
human and social services information, emergency and disaster response
information, and public health information.
|
|
|
What problems does 2-1-1 address?
- Who does a senior call when he has no food and he is hungry?
- Who would know what resources are available if there were a
flood and your well-water became undrinkable?
- Who does a father call to find drug counseling for his
teenager?
- Where does a farm worker go to sign up his family for English
language classes?
- Who do parents call when their child is running a temperature
and they are new to our area?
- To whom does an employer refer an employee
when he or she has a question or needs support in a family crisis?

National Standards
|
|

|
|
National standards for
2-1-1 call centers have been established by the national organization of
the Alliance of Information and Referral Systems (AIRS).
These standards include those required for accreditation of call centers as
well as certification of information and referral specialists. These
standards have gained acceptance around the country as the standards for
2-1-1 call centers. The Greater Columbia Region 2-1-1 will
adopt these national standards.

and social services.

Benefits to our region
- Increased efficiency. A one-stop location for information and
referrals for people seeking information about a variety of community
services.
- Decreased costs. Currently, agencies make referrals and
attempt to maintain databases on an individual basis; this creates
duplication of work. With a central clearinghouse of information about
available services, all agencies will see reductions in staff time
dedicated to locating resources.
- A planning tool. 2-1-1 will track requests, thereby allowing
communities throughout our region to identify and address major gaps
in services.
- Information. Learn how to access services after a
natural or non-natural disaster.
